St Mary's, Whitekirk
Whitekirk may be a tiny hamlet, but it has a long history of Christian pilgrimage dating back to the 14th Century, with the future Pope Pius II making a pilgrimage there after surviving a shipwreck off Dunbar in 1435. Whitekirk’s magnificent red sandstone church of St Mary today remains substantially the building begun in 1439. To enter it is a breathtaking surprise.
