“Incandescent.” – Reviews for Hugh Cutting and Lucy Crowe at Wigmore Hall

·

Crowe’s luminescent soprano, light and almost airborne, soared, circled, and glided around Cutting’s countertenor, creating a vivid sense of dialogue and human tension between the two voices.

Two great singers and the English Concert in early Handel

Christopher Sallon, Seen and Heard International

Crowe and Cutting are incandescent and Zwiener impresses in the sonatas as The English Concert deliver a Handel evening to savour

No shortage of fire and storm from Lucy Crowe and Hugh Cutting, and no skimping on the virtuosity from members of The English Concert.

The remarkable ensemble including Joseph Crouch (cello), Tom Foster (harpsichord) and Sergio Bucheli (theorbo) was an integral part of the evening’s success, the lutenist in particular providing spectacular playing, from the flamboyant to the dulcet – what a superb group this is.
