“The excellent Thomas Chenhall” (Arts Desk) is an award winning English baritone. Praised as a “fine baritone and a fine actor” (Opera Today), he is quickly establishing himself in the industry and has worked extensively throughout the UK, Europe and the United States.
The 2025/2026 season has been very exciting. Following on from his debut at Glyndebourne, Thomas also sang Curio in Giulio Cesare at Carnegie Hall and other well known American venues with The English Concert on their 2025 US tour, also recording this piece with The English Concert in collaboration with Linn Records, to be released later this year. He made a debut as Sailing Master at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in Ted Huffman’s new production of Billy Budd.
Thomas debuted three roles at The Opera National du Rhin in Strasbourg, performing in Otello, Das Wunder der Helaine and Les Mamelles de Tirésais. Thomas made his debut with the Philahrmonie de Strasbourg in their Mozart Requeim memorial concert for the conductor John Nelson. As well as a last minute jump-in covering the role of Bote in Pascal Dusapin’s world premier operatorio Antigone with the Philharmonie de Paris. Summer 2026 includes a house and national debut at the Palau de la Musica in Valencia as Don Giovanni, a return to London’s Barbican in the Academy of Ancient Music’s production of Handel’s Serse, his first Escamillo in Carmen for Northern Ireland Opera and a return to The English Concert for Handel’s Scipione.
Previous engagement highlights include a New Year Messiah in a sold-out Usher Hall in Edinburgh, under the baton of Michael Bawtree. Thomas then recently returned to the Royal Opera House as Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte in their outreach live stream. Thomas makes his house debut at the Glyndebourne Festival as Curio in David McVicar’s famous production of Handel’s Giulio Cesare. Thomas recently performed the title role in a concert performance of Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the BVA Trust and Glyndebourne players in London and house debut covering Schaunard in English National Opera’s revival of Sir Jonothan Miller’s La Boheme.
