Hailed as possessing “such a radiant voice, effortless even in the highest register with breathtaking coloratura, the likes of which have not been heard for a long time” (Berliner Umschau), Liv Redpath is a leading soprano leggero who has established herself in diverse operatic and symphonic repertoire around the world.
Among her notable operatic portrayals are the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Royal Opera House, Los Angeles Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Staatsoper Hamburg; Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier at Bayerische Staatsoper, La Monnaie/de Munt, and Santa Fe Opera; Oscar and Pamina at the Metropolitan Opera; and Tytania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Glyndebourne Festival. She has also appeared as Agnès in George Benjamin’s Written on Skin, Anne Truelove in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, and the Stimme eines Waldvogels in Siegfried.
On the concert stage, Redpath has appeared with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Kirill Petrenko, the San Francisco and Seattle Symphonies, Lucerne Festival, and LA Philharmonic under Esa-Pekka Salonen, among many others. She is a frequent collaborator of conductor Bernard Labadie and has worked with such distinguished podium figures as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle, Karina Canellakis, Barbara Hannigan, and William Christie. Her operatic work has brought her into collaboration with stage directors including Katie Mitchell, Julie Taymor, Robert Carsen, Simon Stone, and Damiano Michieletto.
Her recording of Thaïs with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra on the Chandos label won a 2021 Juno Award for Classical Album of the Year.
A finalist at the 2019 Operalia competition, Redpath also took second prize, the special French opera prize, and the audience favorite award at the 56th Tenor Viñas International Contest at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
A graduate of Harvard University and The Juilliard School, she is a former Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist with the Los Angeles Opera.
