HANDEL FOR ALL

Inside Handel for All: an immersive audio documentary

About this video

In 2025, The English Concert was recognised with a research grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council. With this grant, we were able to create a special body of work documenting the process of a major Handel performance filming project. We chose our 2025 US and UK tour of Giulio Cesare in Egitto to document in this unique way.

Over the course of the tour, we produced an immersive audio documentary about the journey of a H4A film from research to edit suite.

It was fascinating to explore how Handel for All can create a lasting legacy as an archival project that will be available for free, forever.

In the doc, we hear how human voices and musical instruments learn from each other in baroque performance, how engineers distil a live performance into a single visual asset, and how the research-through-performance process for Cesare involved the discovery of a “lost semiquaver”.
