April 2025 archive pick: Ursula Paludan Monberg

Ursula has chosen the 1980 disc, J. S. Bach Orchestral Suites:

”In 1991 for my 9th birthday I received a Walkman from my parents and with it a cassette tape of a Danish pop group’s newest album. I was obviously very excited about the Walkman, but totally unimpressed by the attempt to get me to listen to pop. So off I went on the train to the nearest record shop two towns over and exchanged the unwanted cassette for the most exquisite treasure: Bach orchestral suites with The English Concert!

My parents laughed and recognised a lost cause – they are both musicians…

I still absolutely love this recording! Lisa and Simon’s solo playing is so incredibly beautiful and the orchestra sounds absolutely amazing. So I invite you to climb my childhood apple tree with me, find a comfy nook, put on your headphones and lose yourself to Bach.”
